Cops: Officers Assaulted During Traffic Stop That Led To Drug, Gun Arrest
GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. (CBS) – Police say two officers were assaulted during a motor vehicle stop in Camden County.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday along the Blackhorse Pike in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township.
According to police, during the traffic stop one of the suspects, identified as 18-year-old Ahmad Roper, fled from the vehicle on foot.
Allegedly, after a shoot foot chase, officers were able to grab hold of Roper, but he broke free and began to assault the arresting officers.
Police say after a short struggle, the officers were able to arrest Roper, who was found in possession of Heroin.
Authorities say 18-year-old Christopher Spencer, the driver - who stayed with the vehicle - was found in possession of a large quantity of Cocaine.
A 9mm semi-automatic handgun was also reportedly found in the vehicle.
Roper has been charged with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting arrest and related charged. He was placed in Camden County Jail in lieu of $70,000 bail.
Spencer has been charged distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of handgun during a controlled dangerous substance offense and related charges. He was placed in Camden County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
