Babysitter Saves Girl's Life In Feltonville
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A babysitter is being hailed as a hero after she saved the life of a nine-year-old girl who was in the path of a car in Philadelphia Friday morning.
The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. at 3rd Street and Wyoming Avenue in the city's Feltonville section.
According to investigators, the driver of a SUV, who was allegedly driving under the influence, ran through a stop sign and slammed into two cars.
One of those cars spun out of control, jumped the curb and was barreling towards nine-year-old Andria Garcia, who was waiting on the corner for a school bus.
Authorities say Andria's babysitter quickly acted and pushed the young girl out of the way of the oncoming car.
Andria suffered some minor bumps and cuts on her head, but she is listed in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
Andria's father said his daughter was in shock, but she's getting better.
"She's good. She's doing well now. She's going to be home soon I think," Glaucom Diaz said.
Diaz said he is grateful and appreciates what his babysitter did for his daughter.
Police say the driver that caused the accident, identified as 57-year-old George Streeter, of E.Rockland Street, was arrested on the scene and charged with Criminal Mischief, DUI and related charges. They removed several pill bottles and a 40 ounce bottle of beer from his truck.
The drivers of the other cars involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
