Cooper Hospital Expanding Perimeter Security After Nurses Attacked Outside
By David Madden
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Cooper University Hospital in Camden has made some security changes in light of a pair of assaults on nurses just outside the facility in the past week.
No one was hurt in either incident, both of which occurred during the day, and suspects were quickly apprehended (see related story).
Both nurses were taking a break outside when they were accosted. That's where most of the changes are coming, according to Cooper Health System CEO John Sheridan.
"We have further increased our internal security around the campus," Sheridan (right) tells KYW Newsradio. "We've met with the Camden County police. They are going to increase their patrols in the area. And we're working on several other things that we'll roll out over the next few weeks."
Sheridan insists the area where the hospital sits is one of the safest in the city of Camden, and labels the attacks "isolated incidents."
