Cooking Equipment Sparked North Philadelphia Blaze That Killed 3
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Fire investigators say cooking equipment sparked an early morning fire last month in a North Philadelphia row house that claimed the lives of three people, including a baby.
The fire was reported at 3:16 a.m. on Feb. 27 in the West Seltzer Street home. Twenty-six-year-old Curtis Singleton, his 25-year-old fiancée Dee Nyasha Vicks and their 6-month-old daughter Pahyje Singleton were later pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital. (see related story)
Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said Tuesday there were no working smoke alarms in the home. Authorities earlier said the home had two smoke detectors but one had no battery and the other had a dead battery.
