Convicted Sex Offender In Delaware Faces New Charges
FELTON, Del. (AP) — A convicted sex offender in Delaware is facing new charges of engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl.
Authorities say 29-year-old Edward L. Bassett was arrested Friday while walking near his Felton home. He was arraigned and ordered held on $580,000 bond.
Police say Bassett, who was convicted of unlawful sexual contact in 1997, had sexual encounters with a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook about a year ago. Police say the girl ran away from her Middletown-area home and came to live with Bassett in July. The teenager was returned to her home earlier this week.
It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer and no phone number could be found for Bassett, who's been charged with unlawful sexual contact by a sex offender and second-degree rape.
