Continuing Education

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The New York Times recently devoted a special section to Continuing Education with resources discussed and listed for those looking to learn either for intellectual stimulation, career change, or promotion.
Several articles talk about online certificates, some with fees, some without cost and some offering credit toward degrees. Steven Greenhouse, in an article titled "The Great Aid Gap," calls certificates the fastest growing form of postsecondary credential. But despite studies showing that there are high paying jobs that surpass what people are earning with associate's and bachelor's degrees, federal aid goes overwhelmingly to those with traditional programs.
More colleges are offering courses in entrepreneurship, courses tailored for small businesses and Tanya Mohn reports that hotels are partnering on tourism skills. Elizabeth Olson cites Drexel University Online having started offering certificates in 2001, now lists 50 online choices and some allowing of courses to be combined for a master's degree.
