Consumer Report: Tips for Saving When Planning Your Wedding

by CBS3's Jim Donovan for KYW Newsradio 1060

A recent survey taken by theknot.com finds one-third of brides say the economy has impacted their overall wedding plans.  The cost of an average of wedding decreased three percent in 2009.Still, Rebecca Dolgin from theknot.com says there are noticeable changes:

"forty-one percent of the actual wedding is paid for by the bride's family. But couples are a little bit older these days and they are fronting the costs themselves too."

So how are those couples saving?

"Changing the wedding date, instead of it being a Saturday, they're going for a Thursday night, Sunday night and you can save up to 50 percent just doing that."

Having rehearsal lunches instead of rehearsal dinners is becoming more popular too.
