Consumer Advocate: Stay Home On Black Friday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The lure of great deals drew millions of people to the stores on this Black Friday, but one local consumer advocate says you probably would have been better off just staying home.
Philadelphia consumer advocate Lance Haver says Black Friday is not all that it's cracked up to be. He says, you are not going to save any money, except if you keep your money in the bank.
"So, the idea that you can save money by ruining your Thanksgiving holiday and taking time away from your relatives is not true," Haver says. "The best opportunity for consumers is to decide what you want and shop for the price that's affordable. And that means not being rushed into something and not being fooled into thinking this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
Haver says there will continue to be great deals throughout the holiday season and consumers should not bow to retail pressure just because something is "on sale."
"If you buy a suit of clothes for half price and it doesn't fit you, you didn't get a bargain."
Haver believes the stores should be closed on Thanksgiving, so everyone can spend the time with their families.
