Construction Projects To Make Phillies Traffic Worse Than Usual
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're planning on going to the Phillies home opener Friday afternoon, two PennDOT projects could cause you some real problems.
If you're driving on southbound Interstate 95 between the Walt Whitman Bridge and the Broad Street exit, you know about the construction in that area since last October. But now, they've changed the construction zone around Broad Street and PennDOT's Gene Blaum says it's a bit tricky.
"If they want to exit southbound I-95 at Broad Street, they need to be in that far right lane," Blaum advises. "And there is advance warning signs prior to the construction zone alerting motorists to that situation."
Compounding things, Blaum says, is a second construction job that began earlier this week is at the busy Platt Bridge and it involves the ramp to go south to I-95. He says crews are replacing a 25-foot stretch of pavement which dropped or sunk down.
The detour takes motorists to the Island Avenue ramp and then back up onto I-95.
Blaum says that work will wrap up about the middle of April.
For drivers who want to avoid or miss the Broad Street tie-ups, Blaum suggests getting off I-95 at Front Street and following that to Pattison Avenue and into the sports complex.
