Congressman Meehan Says It's Important For Pope To Discuss Difficult Political Issues
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Congressman Pat Meehan was among the lawmakers in the House Chamber for the Pope's speech.
The suburban Philadelphia Republican says it was important that Francis didn't shy away from talking about difficult political issues, like climate change, the death penalty, and the arms trade:
"He talked in aspirational tones about the realism of the challenges that we face, and the recognition that these are not going to be easy to resolve."
Meehan calls it a 'pep talk' from the Pope to politicians, that, despite their disagreements, they should be talking about these issues and putting their best efforts toward doing something concrete about them.
