Conestoga High School Parents Demand Answers Regarding Hazing Incident
TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, P.A., (CBS) -- Conestoga High School parents demanded answers on Monday night at the first public meeting since three football players were charged with assaulting another with a broom stick.
"Until they actually find out the full details and everything, I really just don't think to jump to conclusions," said Conestoga alum Kevin Stroman. He said he was shocked to hear about the allegations.
Authorities say it happened back in October in the school locker room.
Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said three 17-year-olds were charged as juveniles. The alleged victim was 14-years-old.
"This is just bullying and in Chester County, we won't stand for bullying," Hogan said earlier this month when he announced charges.
Head Coach Vogan stepped down. His assistants were fired.
"I think this meeting should have happened before the coaches were fired," said parent John Kincade. "I think they were judged too early."
We heard from several people who praised the former coaches. Many didn't want to show their faces. Some were confident he alleged victim is lying.
"I think eventually you'll see everything was false regarding this incident," said Jim Batgos, a Conestoga alum. "I think it's a complete fabrication. It's a hoax. When you see it come out, I just hope you guys are actually here to report it," he added.
Parents told Eyewitness News the district was right to host the meeting. They just wished it happened sooner.
"I would like to thank Coach Vogan and his entire staff," said John McCarthy, a parent. "Just a great group of human beings that did a wonderful job coaching kids."
The District Attorney is standing by his investigation.
