Concern About Vaccines Aired On Social Media
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Lately there have been several studies looking at parents and vaccinations and whether a battle on social media is brewing between those who are in favor of vaccines and those who are against it for their children.
The overall statistics will tell you that parents are vaccinating but remain concerned about whether vaccines are okay. A major study has shown that, even though a large majority of parents were vaccinated and vaccinated their kids, only one in five reported having no concerns about childhood vaccines.
Some of the concerns: 38% said vaccines are painful for children, they believe children are getting too many vaccines in a single visit, and they're also worried about fevers and obviously other concerns that are still out there, like autism.
Since the battle is raging in the highly unregulated social media world there needs to be better education about safety and rumors need to be addressed at all levels.
