Community Group Proposing Variety of Upgrades For a Camden, NJ Park

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- As support to reopen and improve Cooper River Park West, in Camden, continues to gather, a community meeting will be held tonight to unveil environmental and recreational plan proposals.
Parkside Business & Community In Partnership Inc. is hosting the meeting. The organization's executive director, Bridget Phifer, describes some of the proposals:
"An environmental center; there is an idea of access to the waterway for canoeing, for recreational type activities. There is an idea of creating what sort of looks like a boardwalk, which would give safe travel along that Admiral Wilson (Boulevard) corridor."
The Delaware River Port Authority owns that section of the park and is in favor of transferring the land over to the New Jersey Conservation Foundation.
Investment backers are being sought to reopen the park that has been closed for more than a decade.
Tonight's meeting is at 7pm at the Early Childhood Development Center, 1602 Pine Street, in Camden.
