Community Fundraiser Held In Honor Of Aimee Willard
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Seventeen years after Aimee Willard, a beloved college student and athlete from Delaware County was abducted and murdered, her family is working hand-in-hand with residents in the North Philadelphia neighborhood where her body was found in 1996.
Willard's mother, sister and other family members are joining with members of the Hero Community Center at 17th and Tioga to sponsor a Coat and New Toy Drive for the upcoming holidays.
Neighbors and Aimee's family first bonded, through the Hero Community Center, in the days just after her death, dedicating a memorial park to her. They also worked on food drives and educational projects. Now, the Willards will work with the Hero Community Center volunteers to help the community with the Coat and Toy Drive, along with providing and helping prepare food at a November 23rd holiday dinner.
Aimee's family was busy delivering some of that food to the Center Wednesday evening.
Donations of coats and new toys will be collected outside the Riddle Ale House on Baltimore Pike near Granite Run Mall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 16th.
The donated items will then be trucked to the Center to be wrapped and distributed.
