Community Effort To Clean Up Philadelphia Park
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A group of community activists and teenagers volunteered their Saturday to clean up the Tacony Creek Park in the city's Lawncrest section.
The grounds along the creek near Adams and Crescentville were filled with empty bottles, plastic bags and overgrown weeds.
Archye Leacock with the Institute for the Development of African-American Youth (IDAAY) says the kids are picking up some life lessons along with the trash:
"It's a splendid opportunity. Everyone talks about young people doing nothing and just ruining the neighborhood and this is an opportunity to show that young people are willing and they're willing to come out and do things."
Chris says he's proud to help make this a family friendly place again:
"I feel like I'm a part of making it a better place."
