Commonwealth Foundation: Governor Wolf Wants A Retroactive Tax

Philadelphia - Matt Brouillette from the Commonwealth Foundation rejected Governor Tom Wolf's latest budget proposal, claiming that it will add too heavy a cost burden to the residents of Pennsylvania.
Brouillette, while speaking with Dom Giordano from Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said the Governor has proposed taxing previous earnings.
"This is going to be expensive. What we're looking at is over $850 per family of four. This is a significant increase. We're talking a retroactive personal income tax increase. Governor Wolf says not only do I want to tax you going forward, but I want to tax you going backwards as well."
He accused Wolf of working to prolong the budget crisis, which has been ongoing since last summer.
"The Governor doesn't really seem to want to resolve these things. He has simply doubled down on the same failed proposals that he made last year. I'm not sure where this ends, but clearly, he's not going to be satisfied with increased spending unless it contains massive tax increases. This is what is hurting Pennsylvania and the sooner he realizes this, the better off we'll be."
Brouillette pointed to state pensions and welfare programs as costs that the commonwealth needs to handle immediately.
"We have added more and more people to the welfare rolls, accessing health care and human services, and of course, our pension system is just wildly out of control, adding more and more cost to all levels of government, not just the state government. The taxpayers pockets are getting picked from the state, local, and the federal government. Pensions are big driver of all these added costs that ratcheting up, and up and up."
