Colleges Join Ed-Tech Revolution

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Higher education may be at a turning point, joining the ed-tech revolution by creating in-house technology incubators, providing for students and faculty to be in on the ground floor of innovation.
University of Pennsylvania announced the creation of a $2.1 million incubator Education Design Studio, Inc. geared to creating education start-up companies.
Bobbi Kurshan, Director of Innovation at the studio's graduate school of education, looks to the initiative as helping techies learn the language of education.
Participants will come to Philly one week per month for six months and stay in contact after that. Faculty can provide research and have a financial stake in the project.
LearnLaunchX in Boston is a three month residential program, offering space even after companies pitch to investors. Socratic Labs in New York City is providing mentorship and opportunity to collaborate.
