College Football: Penn to Wrap Up Non-League Slate vs. Fordham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Penn Quakers picked up their first win of the season in grand style on Saturday, using an 89-yard drive in the final minutes and scoring a touchdown with 17 seconds left to beat Dartmouth, 22-20, in Hanover, NH (see related story).

Quakers' head coach Al Bagnoli is hopeful that that win can help set the table for this Saturday's matchup against Fordham.

"I was telling the team during practice that we came out of that game with so much momentum that we just have to continue that momentum forward," he tells KYW Newsradio.   "It's the last non-league game -- I think you always set your sights on multiple fronts.  Obviously, we want to win the Fordham game.  But by doing that, we also want to play considerably better in a lot of areas than we did against Dartmouth.

"Our red zone attack is still not where we need it to be, our overall kicking game is not where we need it to be.  We're still not fitting into gaps correctly on defense.  So it's really a great opportunity to carry that momentum, try to get a W and really prepare ourselves for the Ivy schedule."

Fordham runs what is called the "pistol" offense.  Bagnoli explains what makes this style unique:

"The tailback lines up directly behind the quarterback as opposed to the side of him.  So it's a shotgun offense, with a tailback directly behind him and he could go either left or right, so you have to be a lot more balanced on defense - he's not off-set to one side or the other and so the plays hit a lot more quicker because he is running downhill right away."
