College Basketball: Penn Readies For Dartmouth, Harvard Visits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After sweeping their first weekend of Ivy League play, the Penn Quakers will look to stay undefeated in the Ancient 8 this weekend as they host Dartmouth on Friday night and then Harvard on Saturday.
The 8-8 Quakers already have wins over Yale and Brown under their belt and head coach Jerome Allen is pleased that they can bring a 2-0 Ivy record into the second weekend of league play. "It's always a good thing when you can get off to a good start in terms of wins and losses in league play," Allen said. I thought for the most part the guys played the right way with the right effort and energy throughout the weekend. Hopefully we can build upon it and try to keep the momentum going."
Dartmouth comes into this game with a 5-13 record and they are 1-3 in the Ivy league. Allen talks about what the Big Green bring to the table. "They play hard, they play the game the right way, they share the basketball, they defend. It's going to be a tough match-up for us," Allen said. "Coach (Paul) Cormier is doing a great job of just getting them to really reinforce the basic principles of the game, and he's building. They are coming in hungry and they are going to play hard and compete so we just have to match the intensity."
Harvard enters the weekend 15-3 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy league. They will visit Princeton on Friday before coming to the Palestra on Saturday night.
