Cold Weather Causing Problems All Throughout Area
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The extreme cold weather is once again causing ice jams in our area, as well as producing falling ice.
In Trenton, New Jersey, the Coast Guard was forced to use ice breaking boats in some places Sunday to ensure river traffic could get through. The threat for flooding is in neighborhoods along streams jammed by ice jams.
Parts of the Schuylkill River are also frozen and covered in a layer of snow. In some spots, ice is packed up to four inches deep.
Another danger that results from the cold comes from above: falling icicles.
A woman was injured Sunday in Center City when she was hit in the head by a piece of ice that fell from the roof of a building in Rittenhouse Square.
Fortunately, she is expected to be just fine.
