Cold Continues, Now Record-Breaking
By Geoff Bansen
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As Buffalo continues to try and dig out from incredible lake-effect snows, much of the nation continues to deal with the bitter cold.
The Delaware Valley is no exception, and now the cold has also set some area records along the way.
Philadelphia had the record low of 20 tied, while Georgetown and Reading set new ones altogether at 19 and 17, respectively. Things don't get much better this afternoon, as even the warmest spots will barely get above the freezing mark. Some places will stay below that, with many trapped in the upper 20s.
After another chilly night tonight, we all see a bit of a reprieve tomorrow. Temperatures will moderate into the mid 40s, still close to 10 degrees below average for this time of year. It just goes to show how unseasonably cold it has been this week.
A weak front moving through will shoot those temperatures right back down on Friday, and we'll be stuck back in the 30s again. The good news through all of this is the dry conditions, which will last through the majority of the weekend.
As the threat of rain creeps back in late Sunday into Monday, temperatures will soar...back to average and even a little above. A welcome trade off for many who aren't thrilled at having to break out the heavy winter gear before carving the turkey.
