Cold, Cold, And More Cold This Week

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An arctic blast has enveloped the Delaware Valley, with no end immediate end in sight - that will have to wait until next week, and I'll get to that in a second. Wind chill values ranged from the 20s to single digits across the region this morning. It's going to feel raw and bitter today as a brisk wind continues to gust from the west. Hey, at least the sun will be shining, right?

Moving into tonight, things will get even more frigid. Temperatures Wednesday morning have the potential to shatter some records! Tomorrow is similar temperature-wise, without the nasty wind. Clouds will build towards sunset, and a weak, moisture-starved front will move through on Wednesday night. But the sun returns again for Thursday, and temperatures also moderate into the 40s, meaning it won't feel nearly as harsh. The sunshine lasts right on into the weekend, but temperatures will remain chilly.

On Sunday, more clouds move in ahead of a new system that will impact the region to start next week. The relief I mentioned earlier? Temperatures shoot up into the 50s on Sunday, and 60s by Monday. Until then, however, it's a winter-like freeze for Philadelphia.
