Cody Parkey On Evan Mathis Release: 'Chip Has A Plan For This Team'

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Reports surfaced on Thursday afternoon that the Eagles decided to release guard Evan Mathis. The Pro Bowl guard had been a no-show for Eagles OTAs up until this point.

As the chatter began, Mathis' teammate Cody Parkey joined Josh Innes and Tony Bruno and instantly had to address the news.

"I just heard," Parkey said. "Evan was a great guy. He was always good to me. Hate to see another guy go, but obviously Chip has a plan for this team and we're behind him 100 percent."

Mathis joins a long list of starters that the Eagles have said goodbye to in the last two off-seasons. Mathis' departure will leave a significant hole on an offensive line that already parted ways with long-time starting guard Todd Herremans.

Parkey made it clear that he does not worry too much about Kelly's overall plan when it comes to moving players. All he focuses on is the team's main objective.

"All of our goal is to win a Super Bowl," Parkey said. "I think we have a really good shot of achieving our goal and like I said, Chip knows the moves to make."

Despite all the change, Kelly's players seem to have full faith in their coach.
