Cockfighting Ring Busted In Kensington
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The SPCA says they busted a cockfighting ring early Saturday morning in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.
This happened around 3 a.m. at the home located on the 2900 block of E Street.
Authorities say a group of men was surrounding the ring, watching roosters fight when police arrived.
Dozens of the participants were able to escape, but police arrested the homeowner, who is now facing animal cruelty charges.
"Cockfighting is a brutal crime and is still serious problem in our community," says Director of Humane Law Enforcement George Bengal. "It's a felony in Pennsylvania and we will hold those who harmed these birds responsible."
Officials say 18 roosters were collected.
