Cliff Lee Will Be Phillies Opening Day Starter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Cole Hamels will not be available to pitch opening day for the Phillies. Their backup plan isn't half bad.
Lefthanded pitcher Cliff Lee will start for the Phillies on Opening Day, March 31st, against the Texas Rangers. Lee will oppose Rangers righthander Yu Darvish.
Cole Hamels would have been the obvious choice for Opening Day, but came to Spring Training suffering from the remnant effects of biceps tendonitis, and then suffered a setback in his rehab last week.
Lee will be followed by newly acquired righthander AJ Burnett, and Kyle Kendrick.
