Cliff Lee: If I Have Surgery, Career Could Be Done
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Just when you thought the state of the Philadelphia Phillies couldn't get any worse, boom. Cliff Lee could require season-ending---potentially career-ending---surgery, for his left elbow.
"It would be six to eight months out," Lee said, if surgery was required. "So basically if I have the surgery, this season will be done — and possibly my career, I guess. I don't know. We'll have to see."
A couple days after his Spring debut on Thursday, Lee felt pain in his left elbow---the same elbow that caused him to miss four-months of last season. An MRI showed swelling the same area of the injury he suffered last year.
"It's mild," Lee told reporters, of the discomfort he felt. "But, it's just concerning because I knew what it turned into last year. … It's what it felt like at the start of when I started feeling it last year."
Lee said he will try to test his arm early this week.
