Cliff Lee Expected To Begin Throwing Program On Monday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Injuries were common for the Phillies in 2014 and one of the team's casualties was starting pitcher Cliff Lee. Lee was expected to combine with Cole Hamels to give the Phillies a formidable 1-2 punch, but his season was defined by injuries and trade rumors.
Lee was held to just 13 starts in 2014, his lowest total since 2003. A strained elbow in May sidelined Lee and after returning to make three starts he re-aggravated the injury and his season was over. Surgery was not needed.
Lee was examined by a team physician in recent weeks and the Phillies expect Lee to begin his normal off-season throwing program on December 1st. Ruben Amaro Jr. expressed that the team expects for Lee to be ready to go when the team reports for Spring Training.
With rumors swirling about the Phillies organization and their willingness to trade away key pieces of their team, it will be interesting to see what type of interest Lee may garner coming off a season where he dealt with elbow issues.
