EAST NORRITON, Pa. (CBS) -- Inside the Sunoco on East Germantown Pike, a routine shift turned violent when a store clerk was shot during a robbery early Wednesday morning.
"I received a call from my employee. He was screaming, said he was shot," explained Chris Madavaram, the store's owner.
Police say three to five suspects stormed the East Norriton convenience store around 3:30 Wednesday morning, demanding cash and cigarettes.
The store wasn't open, but the doors were unlocked, giving the suspects access.
Once inside, they ambushed the store clerk, who struggled to manually open the register. That's when one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the clerk in the lower leg.
Investigators say the suspects took an undetermined amount of cash from the register and an undetermined number of cigarettes.
The descriptions of the suspects are vague, but detectives say the surveillance video is not.
"It was clear enough to see the firearm, the number of suspects and the shooting happen," said Sergeant David Boyer with East Norriton Police.
The clerk was taken to Paoli Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
The suspects remain at large.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the East Norriton Police Department at 610-272-0748.
