Civil Rights Groups Rally Voters Ahead Of Presidential Election
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Local civil rights groups are joining forces to mobilize voters in advance of the November election.
"Today we're faced with another menace called apathy."
Minister Rodney Muhammad is president of the Philadelphia NAACP, which is partnering with groups like Black Voters Matter and National Action Network to form the voter empowerment coalition.
Their goal: launch the city's largest get out the vote effort targeting Black Voters-- a segment of voters he says have been declining at the polls.
"If there's anything that will make us voiceless, it's to be silent at the polls."
Muhammad says Pennsylvania is critical in the November Election and with polls a dead heat between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, voters of color could make the difference. Attorney Michael Coard is part of the coalition and says Black voters must get engaged in the process-- and not just the protest.
"Because Black Lives do matter and Black Must Matter."
