Civic Leader Applauds Federal Contribution For Dilworth Plaza Makeover
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's a shot in the arm, in the form of cold hard cash, for the city's long-running plans to remake Dilworth Plaza, on the west apron of City Hall.
Paul Levy, head of the Center City District, has been pushing his vision for a $50-million makeover of Dilworth Plaza (in file photo above):
"Everyone knows Dilworth Plaza now -- steps, walls, barriers, and deteriorated public space."
Levy says it's now a step closer to reality after Congress approved $15 million for the project:
"So we are ready to go out to bid in April and begin a two-year project of completely transforming it into an extraordinary public space, and a great gateway to transit."
Levy also has commitments for state, city, and private dollars.
The plans include a green lawn with trees and seating, a fountain that can be transformed into a skating rink, a café, and space for outdoor concerts.
