City of Philadelphia Employees Mark 'Take Your Child To Work Day'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Today is "Take Your Child to Work Day."
The event achieved national recognition back in 1993 as "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" and has been expanded over the years to include boys.
Businesses across the Delaware Valley participate in today's events. The City of Philadelphia had festivities at City Hall for city workers and their children. City representative Melanie Johnson read a proclaimation from Mayor Nutter.
Asia Williams (above left), who works for the city Planning Commission in the division of technology, brought her daughter Andrea and her son Sean.
How do they feel about their Mom, now knowing more about what she does?
(Andrea:) "Awesome! And really smart."
(Sean:) "Her work is really a lot of fun -- she gets to do what she likes a lot."
And what does Asia want her kids to take away from this?
"I want the children to know they can do basically whatever they want to do in life. Nothing is unavailable or unachievable," she says.
About 200 people from 21 city departments are participating today.
