Citizens Bank Technical Problems Keep Customers Out Of Accounts For Hours
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Citizens Bank was experiencing some technical difficulties for several hours Friday.
The bank posted a statement online acknowledging the problem, stating in part, "We apologize for the inconvenience, thank our customers for their patience and ask that they check back later today."
One Citizens Bank customer, Patricia Weiss of Gilbertsville, Pa., said around 1 p.m. that she had been trying to access account information since 6:00 that morning. She said she couldn't get access to her account either online, on the phone, or through Citizen Bank branches, and had no idea whether her paycheck has cleared.
A call to the bank's 800 number netted a recording that said, "Due to unusually high call volume, we are unable to answer your call at this time."
Citizens Bank spokeswoman Sylvia Bronner read a statement on behalf of the bank, stating in part: "We have identified a technical issue and are working to restore service as quickly as possible."
Citizens Bank would not discuss the nature of the technical problem or how long it would take to fix, but customers were able to log in to their Citizens Bank online banking accounts by about 1:15pm.
Bronner released the following statement just before 5 p.m.
"We are now fully operational, and customers are able to conduct their banking at our branches, online, through our phone lines, ATMs, and other systems. We are experiencing some residual online banking issues related to the high volume of customers now logging in. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this morning's technical issue, and thank them for their patience."
