Citizens Bank Park Ranked 11th Best In Baseball For Beer Selection

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Washington Post ranked the ballparks across Major League Baseball on the basis of overall beer selection and the home of the Phillies ranked quite high on the list. In recent years, a new culture has formed made up of people that are embracing craft beer and local breweries.
That infusion of people is turning up at baseball games and many parks throughout the big leagues have adjusted to the market. Of course the names we all know and see in commercials are still there. They more than likely aren't going anywhere considering they have the power to have their names on the parks themselves (Coors Field, Miller Park).
With that said, smaller craft breweries are certainly building a presence at ballgames and that includes Phillies games.
Citizens Bank Park's overall beer selection came in at 11th overall in Major League Baseball. The Washington Post based the standings on the following criteria: locality of the beers available at the park, the quality of the beers served and the uniqueness of the beers served.
CBP ranked 12th in locality, 9th in quality and 12th in uniqueness.
The study also listed the top rated beers in each park. Citizens Bank Park's best brews were Rare Vos (Amber Ale) out of Cooperstown, NY, Hop Devil Ale from Downingtown, PA, Prima Pils from Downingtown, Pa, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale out of Chico, CA and Pikeland Pils from Pottstown, Pa. Each individual beer was also rated according to BeerAdvocate.com and each beer in the Phillies' top five received an "Outstanding," rating with the exception of Pikeland Pils which was rated "Very Good."
In case you decide you want to do a little traveling to find some of the best beer selections in baseball, you would have to go all the way out to Seattle to Safeco Field to experience the top rated selection, or you could plan out a little closer trip to Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park for the second rated selection.
Another close destination is Camden Yards in Baltimore which was rated fifth best.
While it looks all too certain that the Phillies could wind up last in the division, at least they can boast that they have the best beer selection. The Braves (27th), Mets (15th), Nationals (13th) and Marlins (23rd) all finished with worse ratings.
The ball park that finished in last place was Yankee Stadium. You would think they'd have the cash for some quality brews.
