Christmas Travel Period Starts Fitfully at Philadelphia International Airport
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Windblown rain in our area and snow in the Midwest created holiday delays this morning for travelers at Philadelphia International Airport.
Chuck and Karen Shea of Northeast Philadelphia were waiting at baggage claim for their daughter and son-in-law to arrive from Alaska for the holidays.
Their flight took them through Chicago -- and that was the problem. A foot of snow there canceled hundreds of flights out of Chicago yesterday.
So Karen was glad her daughter's flight was only an hour late.
"I'm just happy -- I thought it was going to be worse. I thought it was going to be canceled for a day," she told KYW Newsradio. "So an hour is nothing."
One of the busiest air travel days of the Christmas holiday season began with two-hour flight delays and a handful of cancellations in Philadelphia -- but those weather delays eased by mid-morning.
