Christmas Comes Early For Some Top 3rd Grade Students At Camden School
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- A special holiday treat for a select group of students at an elementary school in Camden.
Cooper Medical School of Rowan University invited about 30 of the best and brightest third graders from nearby Wiggins College Prep School for lunch, a tutorial on Christmas tree trains and other holiday activities.
Program coordinator Michael Green says these kids earned it.
"The students themselves are basically being rewarded for their efforts in school."
Green says for some students, this kind of opportunity can act as an incentive for better grades. But for the self-motivated, such as little Christopher Velasquez, the honor roll is a way of life.
"In first grade I made all four marking periods. In second grade I made all four marking periods. I'm trying my best to do really good at school because my dream is to be the President."
