Christie Agrees To Repay New Jersey For Personal Copter Trips
TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that he will repay the state for the cost of Tuesday's state police helicopter ride to his eldest son's baseball game in North Jersey.
Actually, Christie is writing a check for more than $2,100 to cover two personal trips during his tenure -- one to that baseball game last Tuesday, which has drawn the ire of many Democrats (see related story), and another the previous Friday.
In addition, the state Republican Party will pony up more than $1,200 to cover Tuesday's return trip from the ball game to Princeton, where Christie met with Republicans from Iowa who failed to convince him to run for president (see related story).
All the money is going to the New Jersey State Police, who provide the chopper service to the governor whenever he calls as part of their security detail.
