CHOP Partners With City Officials For 'First-Of-Its-Kind' Project

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Nutter administration are partnering to build a multipurpose facility in South Philadelphia that creates an innovative approach to improving public health in a variety of ways .
CHOP chief executive officer Steven Altschuler calls the $42-million renovation and construction project at Broad and Morris Streets the "Big Kahuna of private-public partnerships."
"The state-of-the-art facility will house a CHOP care network, South Philadelphia primary care practice, the City Health Center #2, the Free Library of South Philadelphia branch, and a large recreational area that will provide plenty of space for people to play," he says.
CHOP is providing most of the funding in return for a nominal lease from the city after the facility opens late next year.
