Chip Kelly Says Darren Sproles Has MCL Sprain, Status Uncertain For Arizona
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Eagles coach Chip Kelly updated Darren Sproles' status on Monday afternoon.
"He's got an MCL sprain, so we'll see how long it's gonna be," Kelly told reporters. "Could be a week or two, could be back after---we have a week off so. He'll get treatment and we'll assess him when we get back next Tuesday."
With a little over one minute remaining in the third quarter of the Eagles-Giants game on Sunday night, Sporles ran left tackle to midfield, gaining four yards. It looked liked a harmless run initially, but the Eagles' most explosive play maker actually hurt his left knee on the play.
Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis had an MCL sprain of his own that is causing him to miss around two months. Kelly said Sproles' looks to be less serious.
"Obviously Evan was out for eight weeks, so it didn't sound like it was going to be that long."
Running back Chris Polk is already suffering from a hamstring injury, so the Eagles are very thin in the backfield. Fortunately for them, they're off this week before heading to Arizona to face the Cardinals in week 8.
Kelly was asked if he will look to add depth at that position and he responded in classic Chip Kelly sarcastic fashion.
"We will not make any moves this week during our bye week to solidify our team, for the bye."
