Chip Kelly Promises The Seattle Loss Won't Linger
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Win or lose, the mentality is the same for Chip Kelly.
Never one to get too high after a victory or too low after a loss, Kelly said his team is ready to move forward after a humbling loss tot he Seahawks on Sunday. The Eagles have yet to lose two games in a row this season, and Kelly isn't worried about the sting of the Seattle loss lingering into the week.
"We've had days like that," said Kelly. "We're going to have days where it doesn't work out the way you want it to work out, but if you're going to pack your bags after that and take your ball and go home...I don't think we have a group like that. This team's got good resolve and I expect them to be flying high when they get in here."
Kelly has kept the same message throughout his tenure in Philadelphia and his players have bought into the same mentality. Kelly also thinks his players aren't affected either way when it comes to a big victory or the kind of defeat the Eagles suffered on Sunday.
"I just think they understand it," Kelly said. "It doesn't define you. Someone says you played well and you're real happy about it, then someone says you played poorly, you have to answer to yourself. You know how well you played. You know how well you performed on a given day."
The loss to Seattle damages the team's hopes of getting a first round playoff bye. If the Eagles aren't careful, they could find themselves on the outside looking in if they lose to Dallas this Sunday. However, Kelly says he doesn't spend time going over the endless playoff scenarios to his team.
"We don't talk about it," said Kelly. "We're aware of it. Everybody understands the more games you win, the better opportunity you have to to play in the post-season, and that's what this deal's all about. I don't think talking about it does anything for us."
Even if the Eagles can't catch the likes of the Packers and Seahawks in the NFC, the NFC East crown is still within their grasp. A win over the Cowboys Sunday night would move the Eagles to within one win of clinching their second straight division crown.
"That's what's left," Kelly said. "If we had three games outside the division, that's what I would talk about. When you look at what's next for us, we play Dallas, then we play Washington and then we play New York. All three of those games are in the division."
