Chip Kelly Discusses Foles Vs. Vick With Angelo Cataldi
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Whether Chip Kelly, Michael Vick or Nick Foles think there is a quarterback controversy with the Philadelphia Eagles is immaterial. There is a quarterback controversy.
Nick Foles, in his first start this season, led the Eagles to a 31-20 win over the Bucs, and did so with a near perfect performance, throwing for 296 yards and three touchdowns, without an interception.
Chip Kelly says that while Foles and Vick are different players, with different strengths, both are able to execute the same offense.
"That's the beauty of both those guys, is that they can handle kind of what we do, everything," Kelly said on Monday morning during his weekly appearance with Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show. "Our game plan on a weekly basis changes just because of who we play against schematically, and personnel wise changes, but we didn't add a ton of things for Nick [Foles] or drop a ton of things that Mike [Vick] was doing. We've been very consistent and I think that's a credit to both Mike and Nick."

Cataldi asked Kelly if dealing with quarterback controversy questions is annoying.
"No, that's not annoying, it's part of the deal and I think we've got two really good quarterbacks, just like if for some reason you [Angelo] were out and Al [Morganti] took over, I don't think the show misses a beat," Kelly said. Rhea Hughes, Al Morganti and Cataldi all reminded Kelly that's a bad comparison, and insist the show is not very good without Cataldi.
There is some thought that because Vick is the clubhouse leader, that he will remain the starter because of that reason alone.
"I think all of our players just want to win and they know we're all on the same page. We want to win," Kelly said.
Both quarterbacks have been able to accumulate yards with the Eagles offense. When Foles is behind center, however, the team seems to operate more effectively in the red zone. Would Kelly ever consider using both quarterbacks in the same game? Using Foles when the team gets within the twenty yard line?
"You mean like one at running back and one at quarterback? You could be on to something there," Kelly joked. If we play a two quarterback offense they won't know how to defend us. I've never done that in the past, but if I do do it I'm going to blame it on you [Angelo]."
Kelly puts some of the red zone issues on himself.
"Honestly, I've done a better job of giving our guys plays in the red zone," Kelly said. "I stunk early. There's a lot of things that we called, a couple things we called, that we've practiced for five weeks, I just haven't called that. I finally called it on Sunday and we hit a touchdown on it, so call me out on that.
When pressed, Kelly was still non-committal about who will start on Sunday against the Cowboys.
"I don't go that way because I don't predict futures," Kelly said. "We're going to evaluate everybody. Mike's no different than James Casey right now, in terms of how we look at things."
