Kelly To Cataldi: 'Want A Screamer? Let's Hire You'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's seems like yesterday.
Angelo Cataldi and Chip Kelly were exchanging pies, quick-witted lighthearted jokes, and sarcastic compliments. And more importantly, Kelly was leading his 10-6 Eagles to an NFC East title and a home playoff game.
Fast-forward almost two years later and Kelly's Eagles---now under his complete control---are crumbling after an embarrassing 45-17 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The tone of Cataldi's weekly Monday morning call with Kelly on SportsRadio 94WIP has changed from jovial to contentious.
"Do you get emotionally angry after a game yesterday?" Cataldi asked Kelly. "Do you transmit that anger to your players?"

"I don't think you have to yell at grown men," Kelly responded. "I think every single play in that locker room is as disappointed, or more disappointed, than anybody in this city in terms of how we played and what the outcome of this game was. So for someone to have yell at them or raise their voice, they're not two year olds. They're grown men. They know exactly what's going on. That's Harry High School stuff. That doesn't flow and that doesn't work and that's not what people talk about it. If that's what people want, if people want a screamer and yeller, then let's hire you 'cause you're really good at it."
"I'm not sure I'd be worse than 4-6," Cataldi said.
After a big walk-off overtime win over the Cowboys three weeks ago, the Eagles have unexpectedly fell to 4-6 thanks to two humiliating home losses. Kelly summed it up pretty simply.
"We've been outplayed in six football games," Kelly said. "We've been out-coached in six football games.
"I think every thing you look at is a weekly thing," he continued. "We had this conversation after the Dallas game---that you beat Dallas and all of the sudden it's rainbows and candy canes and we're gonna win the rest of our games because we beat Dallas, you know. It's not like that. Every week is its own individual week, just like this game won't reflect what goes on next week. We need to come back, go to work, we're in today, we've got a game on Thursday, and we're gonna go play."
Kelly, now 24-18 as head coach of the Eagles, appreciates the onerous task of winning games in the National Football League.
"We're not writing a story here," Kelly explained. "We're not making a movie. We're playing football and football is hard ass game that you gotta prepare for every single week, and you gotta practice for every single week, and you gotta go play every single week."
No, we're not.
But if we were, the once hopeful story of an offensive minded college coach who changed the game of football with his fast-paced, unconventional style is turning into a fairy tale.
