Chester-Upland School District Students Are Michelle Obama's Guests At White House

CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) - A handful of students in the Chester-Upland School District will be at the White House today, guests of First Lady Michelle Obama. They'll take part in the 4th annual kitchen garden spring planting there.
Last year, two Stetser Elementary students started their own gardens. They've moved on to middle school, but not before writing Mrs. Obama to tell her of their efforts, which resulted in fresh veggies in the cafeteria and healthier menus at all the district's elementary schools.
"As adults, our voice has some limitations. But when children carry that message, it can have a huge impact," says Stetser's principal, Janet Baldwin.
They'll join three fourth graders at Stester who, along with Baldwin, are taking the first lady up on her invitation.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it's hard to put it into words how powerful this is."
At least to motivate not just young people, but adults. Students from three other states and DC are also taking part in the event.
