BERWYN, Pa. (CBS) - A Conestoga High School teacher from Wayne was arrested last week and charged with being drunk on the job.
Tredyffrin Township Police say 43-year-old Carol Wittschieben was unresponsive at noontime last Monday when they were called to the school in Berwyn. They say it turns out she was intoxicated.
Police charged her with public drunkenness and recklessly endangering others; Wittschieben teaches chemistry at Conestoga High.
The Tredyffrin Easttown School District issued a statement saying it takes matters of student safety very seriously and as a result of Ms. Wittschieben "becoming ill" and subsequently being removed from the building, she's been placed on leave.
She'll remain on the leaving pending results of an investigation into the matter.
Parents of Wittschieben's students have been notified of the matter by the school.
