Charles Barkley Interested In Being Sixers General Manager
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If the Sixers are looking for their next general manager, Charles Barkley is interested in applying for the job.
94WIP's Anthony Gargano is reporting that Charles Barkley would be interesting in becoming the new Sixers general manager. Gargano asked Barkley via text message if he'd be interested in being the Sixers GM, and Barkley responded "yes sir."
A report surfaced earlier today that the Sixers are interviewing candidates to be the successor to Rod Thorn as president (and/or general manager) of the Sixers. A later report suggested that former Cleveland GM Danny Ferry is the frontrunner for the job.
Thorn is both Sixers president and general manager, having assumed the GM post when Ed Stefanski left for the Toronto Raptors before the 2011-'12 season.
Barkley spent eight seasons with the Sixers as a player, before being traded to the Phoenix Suns. He has not held a front office position in the NBA.
