Charges Filed Against 8th Grade Girl Following Stabbing At A Philadelphia School
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police have announced that an 8th grade girl is being charged with Aggravated Assault and Reckless Endangerment of Another Person in connection to the stabbing of another student at Philadelphia's Jay Cooke Elementary School.
Officials say she is being charged as a juvenile.
Authorities say police and medic units were called to Jay Cooke Elementary school just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the school district, a fight broke out between the two girls in a third floor hallway. Authorities say the girl facing charges grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the victim multiple times.
Police say the girl was stabbed in the upper chest and arm. The incident prompted a lock down of the school.
Fernando Gallard with the Philadelphia School District says, "I can confirm these students know each other and they have had a dispute before."
The dispute had lasted several weeks, though it is unclear if that is what this fight was about.
