Charges Dropped In May Slaying Of Pa. Pastor's Son
MEDIA, Pa. (CBS/AP) — A suburban Philadelphia prosecutor has dismissed murder charges against a man wrongly accused of having killed a local pastor's son last spring.
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan apologized Wednesday for the mistaken arrest of 22-year-old Tahmir Craig of Chester in the slaying of 27-year-old Devon Williams.
Whelan said detailed examination of surveillance images showed that the shooter was substantially taller than Craig.
Craig told reporters that he was relieved to be free, and his imprisonment had been stressful and depressing, but he accepted the prosecutor's apology. His mother said she knew all along that her son was innocent.
Williams, the son of the Rev. Calvin Williams of the Temple of Brotherly Love in Chester, was shot and killed May 28.
