Champion Reminisces About Win Of Last US Open Held At Merion

ARDMORE, Pa. (CBS) - The last U.S. Open winner crowned at Merion 32 years ago was an Australian golfer by the name of David Graham.
KYW Newsradio caught up with the champion while he was in town for the tournament.
In 1981, 35-year-old David Graham made history by becoming the first Australian to win the U.S. Open. Three-plus decades later, Graham reflects on what it's like to be back.
"I get goose bumps when I go to Merion. I'm sitting on the first tee there and watch all the new players play; Phil Mickelson and Tiger and these guys tee off," he says.
When asked what his most memorable shot was that tournament, Graham fondly brings up his last swing off the tee.
"Being in the lead and being able to drive it right in the middle of the fairway on 18, that, I think, was the most significant shot," says Graham.
He says he still remembers the U.S. Open pressure, the feeling of being one swing away from failure.
But he ended up winning by three strokes, taking the second and final major championship of his career.
