Ceremony Held At 30th Street Station For World War II Vets

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A brief wreath laying ceremony was held at 30th Street Station on Sunday honoring some 1,300 Pennsylvania Railroad employees who served during World War II and made the supreme sacrifice. The ceremony was held at the World Two Memorial statue, Angel of the Resurrection.
According to spokesman Andrew Chavallo, who represents a national network of veterans known as "Honor Flight," Sunday is officially designated National Spirit of 45 Day, and he believes there is no better place to honor veterans than at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.
"They're keeping the spirit alive by laying the wreath and doing the services throughout the country to keep the spirit alive and to recognize the World War II veterans. This statue represents all the Pennsylvania Railroad workers that died during World War II. There are 1,307 of them," Chavallo explains.
Following the ceremonial laying of wreathes made of red and white carnations, veterans in attendance shared memories and enjoyed a piece of cake and a refreshments.
