Ceremony At Korean War Memorial Honors Local Vets Who Died In Combat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Veterans gathered Monday at the Korean War Memorial on Penn's Landing to honor the over 600 servicemen from Philadelphia and the surrounding Pennsylvania counties who died in the Korean War.
They fought for their country, the gave their lives in what became known as "The Forgotten War," sandwiched between WWII and the Vietnam War, but it's not forgotten at the Korean War Memorial where you can take your hand and rub it along the etchings of the names of those fallen vets in black granite.
Veteran Ralph Andracchio says people shouldn't forget -- he won't.
"I served from 1950 to 1954," he says, "I have a buddy who is still M.I.A. since 1952 and I think about him constantly. All of these guys should be thanked every day by the people, every day."
Sadly not every day, but certainly on Memorial Day.
