Center City Tavern Offers Flower Show Themed Food And Drinks
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The world-famous Philadelphia International Flower Show opened to the public on Sunday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. A local tavern has been altering its food and drink menu to coincide with the show's theme since the early 90s.
With this years flower show theme, "Springtime in Paris," a French flair has been added to the food and drink menu at McGillin's Olde Ale House in Center City.
Chirs Mullins Sr., owner of McGillin's, the oldest tavern in Philadelphia, talked about the menu this year.
"Beef bourguignon is our flower pot pie. What we will do is do the beef bourguignon in a flower pot, topped with a puff pastry. Of course, we always have French onion soup, we will do Croque Monsieur," Mullins said.
McGillin's will also have special cocktails.
"A French martini, a Starry Eyed Night, but a Fleur-de-lis is a real nice drink. It's a shot of Chambord vodka, a new product, and a shot of raspberry liquor. It's topped with lemonade and a splash of cranberry," Mullins said.
Mullins says the specials could vary during the course of the flower show. It is estimated that the greater Philadelphia region's restaurants/bars, hotels, and stores will get a $62 million economic boost thanks to the Flower show.
